The Alpha Course at Woody

Alpha

Explore life, faith and meaning

Have you ever wondered who Jesus really was? Why Christians believe what they believe? Or whether faith has anything to say about the questions and challenges of everyday life?

Alpha is a chance to explore those questions in a relaxed, friendly and open environment.

At Woody, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to ask questions about faith — whether you're completely new to Christianity, have been around church for years, or aren't sure what you believe at all.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question about life, faith and God, with plenty of space to discuss what you think.

There’s no expectation that you already know anything about Christianity, and you don't have to agree with everything you hear. Questions, doubts and different opinions are all welcome.

Typically, an Alpha session has three simple parts:

Connect

We start by spending time together, usually over food or a drink. It's a chance to relax, get to know people and have a conversation.

Explore

We watch a short talk exploring one of the big questions of the Christian faith.

Discuss

We then talk about it together. You can ask questions, share your thoughts or simply listen. There’s no pressure to say anything you don't want to.

Alpha at Woody

We want Alpha to feel like an extension of who we are as a church: welcoming, honest, intergenerational and open to everyone.

Our vision at Woody is "Open Doors. Open Homes. Open Hearts". Open Hands. Alpha gives us a great opportunity to put that into practice — opening a door for people who might never normally walk into a church, opening a home around a table, opening our hearts to honest questions, and being open to what God might want to do.

We're not interested in having all the answers or trying to win an argument. We simply want to create a space where people can explore the Christian faith and discover more about Jesus.

Who is Alpha for?

Pretty much anyone.

You might be:
Curious about Christianity
Completely new to faith
Someone who used to go to church but has drifted away
A Christian who wants to explore the foundations of their faith
Unsure what you believe
Someone with lots of questions — or no questions at all

You don't need to know the Bible, pray, or have any particular beliefs before coming along.

When is the next Alpha?

We don't run Alpha every year, but from time to time we run a course when we feel the time is right.

We'll announce details of our next Alpha here and across our social media channels.

In the meantime, if you'd like to find out more about Alpha or explore a course running elsewhere, you can visit the official Alpha website.

Got questions?

That's exactly what Alpha is for. If you'd like to know more about Alpha at Woody, get in touch with us and we'll be happy to let you know when the next course is planned.
